The quality of our relationship with ourselves and the relationships we build with others can have a profound impact on the overall quality of our lives.
My name is Marcus, and I’m glad you’re here. I have been working in the field of psychotherapy since 2017, when I earned my M.A. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings, including serving as a counselor for students and families at Mid-Atlantic Teen Challenge in Newport News, Virginia, completing my work as a Resident in Counseling at Fly Family Therapy in Newport News, and currently providing counseling services at Riggs Counseling and Neurofeedback LLC in Hampton, Virginia.
Therapy Approaches
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps individuals develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than struggling to eliminate or control them. ACT emphasizes present-moment awareness, acceptance, and identifying personal values so individuals can make meaningful choices and take actions that move them toward the life they want to live.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy provides a supportive and collaborative space to explore thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and life experiences that may be affecting your well-being. Through greater insight, practical coping skills, and meaningful personal growth, psychotherapy can help you navigate challenges and move toward healthier, more fulfilling ways of living.
SFBT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy)
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a strengths-based approach that focuses on solutions, personal resources, and the changes you want to see rather than remaining centered on problems. By identifying what is already working and building on small, achievable steps, SFBT helps create meaningful progress toward your preferred future.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps individuals understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. By identifying and challenging unhelpful thinking patterns and developing healthier coping strategies, CBT supports meaningful changes in emotional well-being and daily functioning.
Let's Talk
The first step in therapy is talking. Let's find a time where we can meet and talk about what's on your mind.
